About Dan

Dan Morton brings a Duke University education and four decades of litigation experience to the firm's insurance defense and coverage practice. A 1982 graduate of Duke and a 1985 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law, Mr. Morton has been a cornerstone of the firm since its founding.

Mr. Morton's practice spans the full breadth of civil defense work, with particular depth in insurance defense, insurance coverage disputes, employment law, and construction litigation. His ability to navigate the complex intersection of coverage analysis and litigation strategy makes him an invaluable resource for insurance carriers and their insureds.

In insurance coverage matters, Mr. Morton advises carriers on policy interpretation, coverage obligations, and reservation of rights issues across personal auto, commercial auto, homeowners, commercial general liability, and directors and officers policies. His coverage opinions are relied upon by major insurance companies operating throughout North Carolina.

Mr. Morton's employment law practice encompasses the defense of claims involving sex, racial, age, religious, and disability discrimination, as well as sexual harassment and wage and hour disputes. His experience in federal court makes him particularly effective in employment matters, which frequently arise under federal statutes.

His reported appellate cases demonstrate the breadth of his practice, spanning insurance coverage disputes, election law, and civil rights litigation at both the state and federal level, including a case affirmed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
